Donate to Strengthen Youth and Families

“If we want our youth to flourish, to truly become empowered, then let us allow them to experience the strength of what unlimited encouragement can do.”
– Keith A. Kuboyama, LCSW, President and CEO

At the heart of the cryptocurrency philanthropy movement, the idea is simple: by giving away a portion of your gains, you can help make a difference in the world. Only a handful of nonprofits in Hawaii accept cryptocurrency, and Family Programs Hawaii has partnered with The Giving Block (using Gemini exchange and wallet) so that you may now donate your cryptocurrency. We accept 70 cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin and Ethererum. Donating cryptocurrency is a non-taxable event, meaning you do not owe capital gains tax on the appreciated amount and can deduct it on your taxes. This makes Bitcoin, Ethereum and other cryptocurrency donations one of the most tax efficient ways to support Family Programs Hawaii’s mission with families and children in Hawaii.

Why donate cryptocurrency?

When you donate cryptocurrency to Family Programs Hawaii, you do not recognize capital gains from the donation and can deduct it on your taxes. In other words, donating your crypto can often reduce your tax burden.

Can I donate cryptocurrency anonymously and still get a tax receipt?

With us, you can. We have an option for donors to submit only an email in order to receive an automatic tax receipt.

Does donating cryptocurrency lower my taxes?

Can I donate Bitcoin?

Yes. Instead of selling your Bitcoin and donating the after-tax proceeds, you can donate your Bitcoin and other cryptos directly to Family Programs Hawaii via our parternship with The Giving Block using the Gemini (exchange and wallet), which means your tax deduction will be the same as the market value of the donation.
