Helping Hawaii’s Children Remain in Healthy Homes

Breaking the Cycle

We can make a difference in the life of a child by reducing placements into out-of-home care. We help families grow stronger by teaching parents skills to provide a stable and nurturing home for their children. FPH uses broad-based preventive approaches such as Ho’omalu, Voluntary Case Management and Wendy’s Wonderful Kids to address this critical issue. We also find homes for older youth to prevent them from “aging out” of the child welfare system without a permanent home.

Our Story About Prevention – Strengthening Families

A single father of three teenagers, working a 24-hour schedule, was referred to case management for repeatedly physically disciplining his teenage daughter. Our Voluntary Case Management worker was able to show him the effect of his behavior, and worked closely with him to adopt a more effective approach in dealing with his teenagers, ultimately keeping his family out of the child welfare system and enjoying a closer family bond.
