Enhancements

Funding to improve and enhance the lives of children in foster care or who have been abused or neglected. Funds limited to $500 per child per year.

Eligibility:

Geist Foundation

Under 18 or under 21 if still in high school
Resides in Hawai‘i, and
Is placed by a Hawai‘i state agency in a kinship, foster, respite, guardianship, permanent custody or adoptive family
Under 18 or under 21 if still in high school
Resides in Hawai‘i, and
Is placed by a Hawai‘i state agency in a kinship, foster, respite, guardianship, permanent custody or adoptive family

Hughes Trust

Under the age of 18
Has been abused, neglected or abandoned, or resides in a household where abuse has occurred
Is in financial need
Resides in Hawai‘i

Funds available for:

Geist Foundation

Extracurricular activities (e.g., graduation or prom attire, filed trips, athletic uniforms);
Hobbies, sports and cultural activities (e.g., hula lessons, soccer registration);
Facilitation of transition into adulthood (e.g., driver’s education, copy of birth certificate, etc.);
Intercession activities (e.g., summer camp);
Other quality of life enhancements (e.g., books, toys)

Hughes Trust

Extracurricular school expenses (e.g., filed trips, athletic uniforms);
Social activity expenses (e.g., prom and graduation attire));
After school activities, hobbies and sports (e.g., hula lessons, soccer registration);
Facilitation of transition into adulthood (e.g., driver’s education, copy of birth certificate, etc.);
Intersession activities (e.g., summer camp);
Other quality of life enhancements (e.g., birthday/Christmas gifts [$50 max], books and toys);
School related expenses (e.g., tuition, books, tutoring fees, pre-school);
Health related expenses (e.g., medical, dental, therapy, counseling);
Basic needs (e.g., clothing, baby furniture). Expenditures in this category require explanation.
