Voluntary Case Management

Strengthening families on the Leeward Coast (Oahu, Hawaii)

A preventive effort to support Hawaii’s youth and families so they do not become involved in the Child Welfare System. The goal is to create a safe and healthy home for children by preserving family strengths and decreasing family stress in Hawaii.

VCM uses a Family Centered Practice approach based on the belief that families know best what works to keep their children safe. Case Managers team with families to support decisions that ensure a safe home for their children.

Referrals or Resources Given to Families

Families are referred from the Hawaii State Department of Human Services Child Welfare Services after an initial assessment of a report of abuse or neglect determines that the children involved are at “moderate risk.” Families are then asked to voluntarily accept services to prevent investigation and court involvement.
